In December of 2023, I was commissioned to do a custom piece from Roald Dahl’s James And The Giant Peach. I could draw anything that came to mind, and I wanted it to contrast with my first James piece from 2022. I also wanted to depict another scene from the classic book, and I knew exactly which one: The garden – the point early in the story when James discovers a peach that is way too big for the tree. It’s sunny and even hopeful, contrasting with the darker, more surreal scene from the original 2022 illustration.

December 2023. Ink, watercolor, and acrylic ink on 9×12 140lb Fabriano cold press watercolor paper. Printed on 11×17 Red River Aurora Natural White 64lb fine art paper using Canon ChromaLife100+ long-lasting dye inks.
