Self-imposed comics rehab, day 6

Back for my second week of drawing comics in the morning when I could be sleeping.

Today I tried to finish the page I started last Friday, and I would have finished, too, if it weren’t for those pesky kids… I mean, if it weren’t for that stupid head I was trying to draw. I got stuck on a panel where I have my fat guy sitting on a park bench, leaning back with his arms resting on the back of the bench and his head slightly tilting up. Sometimes I have trouble with that head position and sometimes I don’t. In an effort to try and get the page done I decided to forego searching for a reference picture; it’d have taken a while to find close to what I needed so I tried to solve the problem myself, using what little knowledge of anatomy I have and how the body works.

I think I have a fair understanding of anatomy and figure drawing, but not nearly enough, and I think it often shows in my work. Many times my figures will look natural with correct anatomy, but then I try to draw something at an odd angle or position and it takes me a while before I get it looking close to correct, and this just shows how much more studying I need to do.

I also noticed, as I approached my table today, that I hadn’t looked at the page since last Friday. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it, either. I guess that’s a good thing.
