Guest strip on Girls With Slingshots

The wonderful Danielle Corsetto was running guest strips for her webcomic, Girls With Slingshots. This weekend ends the guest run. My guest strip is up today. If you miss it, you’ll be able to view it here. Thanks to Danielle for allowing me to contribute to a great strip. If you aren’t already reading Girls With Slingshots, you should start.

Good job, Aqua Teen Hunger Force

Read this article about the promotion for the upcoming Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, first. Done? Good. Anyone who comes up with a promotion involving fake bombs placed through a major city is a dumbass. Want a more logical, sophisticated response? Fine. Anyone who comes up with a promotion involving fake bombs placed through a major city is incredibly unaware, insensitive, and does not understand the current societal mindset and its affect on human nature at … Read More

Falsely adaptive

I have found that, as adaptable as I can be, sometimes I am falsely adaptive… that is, I adapt by letting my situation depict my behavior, even if that behavior is illogical, non-beneficial, and disruptive. Take my job, for instance. I work for a pretty liberal e-commerce site, the name of which I will withhold (though you can read about the Sacramento corporation’s bankruptcy in the papers). It is completely unprofessional here. I have always considered … Read More

Star Wars fans… quit complaining!

Many have given Lucas a lashing for releasing and re-releasing and re-releasing and re-releasing Star Wars, complaining that he’s just gouging his fans for their money by releasing edition after edition after edition. And I say… …so what? He’s a businessman and a filmmaker. He makes his films with the money he collects from his licensing properties. He knows for a fact that whatever he releases he’s going to make money. Why? Because someone’s buying his … Read More

Congratulations! It’s a wedding!

I don’t usually draw mainstream superheroes-in-tights very much nowdays, so I don’t get to draw like this very often. However, my friends Kevin and Christina are getting married in October, and Kevin wanted them both to be superheroes for a “portrait”-in-frame piece they’re using as their guestbook. This is what I came up with: click on image for larger view Kev and Christina needed to look “superhero-ish,” so I went for a very clean, tight inking … Read More

It’s Daredevil!

(click on the image for a larger view in a new window) Daredevil, for you kids who are behind the times. I needed a card for a birthday gift I was giving and didn’t have one. I was giving the ol’ gal (sorry Toni) a copy of the Daredevil: Director’s Cut DVD and wanted to include a copy of the Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller Vol. 2 collection. She loves super-hero movies but owns no comics, so … Read More

Cristal Champagne and Jay-Z

Not everything is racist, so put away the race card until it can actually make a good hand. I’m not going to make a judgement on who is right or who is wrong in this Cristal Champagne/Jay-Z issue (in which Jay-Z is urging the Hip-Hop community to boycott the champagne) until I read the article in question. (Agenda Inc. pointed to this Yahoo! URL as a copy of Jay-Z’s press release. If there is a more … Read More

New sketches and inks! Hooray!

For Max Hades I don’t want a slick-looking book, so I’m using a type of pen-sketch inking style. The goal is to capture some of the fun and feel I get when I sketching/drawing with a pencil (obviously, it won’t be exact). I want something sketchy, yet refined; spontaneous, yet planned; quick and “raw,” yet deliberate. Lately, I’ve been doing some practice drawings to help me improve, and become more comfortable with, the style of inking … Read More

Sketch post #1: Lizzie

While working on the female figure, I did a sketch of a character named “Lizzie.” I have no idea what Lizze’s supposed to look like, but this one is a contender. Of course, she reminds me a bit of Elektra. Maybe it’s the full lips? The tight body outfit? The athletic body? She’s got a pretty big hand there, doesn’t she? You know what they say about chicks with big hands… …don’t let them hit you. … Read More

Polite cell phones, dumbass users

Apparently, polite cell phones are being developed that will learn when it’s an appropriate time to ring. For example, the phone will know that it’s not okay to ring when you’re in church on Sunday mornings. OR… People could just learn how to turn off their ringer at the appropriate times.

It’s “Christmas”… it’s okay

To anyone trying to turn Christmas into a P.C. holiday: (If you’re not one of these people and want to skip this, then go read one of my comics. They’re more entertaining) I’m not a Christian. And sure, it’s kinda freaky to see a huge, lit up cross (not a burning cross, mind you) on the side of a rolling hill when driving between Sacramento and the Bay Area at night, but hey… so what? I’m … Read More

Fanboy Radio quickie

I, along with several other creators, did a quick interview on Fanboy Radio episode 276, which is spotlighting the online comic jam I participate in, The Bullet Angelica. The episode should broadcast on Wednesday, 11*30*2005 (tomorrow!). They put up recent episodes for free download at FbR PC.com, so if you can’t stream it, download it. Scott Hinze rocks.

Here’s the deal…

My short stories for The Velvet Goat are done. This means I can technically get a move on with the next couple chapters of Max Hades. BUT – we’re in the midst of trying to sell our home, which means keeping it neat and keeping as few things loose in the place as possible. Not to mention the fact that (hopefully) we’ll have people over to look at the ol’ stead. FOR NOW, I’ll be postponing … Read More

Max Hades update

For those of you wondering where the hell the next chapter of Max Hades is, well… I’m going to get to that. I just finished my Velvet Goat story, I Don’t Wear Love Goggles, and technically now I’m free to start the next book. The problem is, I’m packing up the house and cleaning it up because we’re getting it ready for sale. Hopefully I can start the next chapter after this weekend, if there’s not … Read More

Originality

There’s a thread over at the Fanboy Radio Forums regarding the originality of comic book characters, and the beef about how no really “new” characters have been created. I wrote the following post, which I thought was written pretty well and had many good points regarding my thoughts on originality. I posted my writing here in its entirety, no edits of any kind, and therefore it reads just as it does on the Fanboy Radio Forums … Read More

Announcement

Quick site update! It’s been awhile, yes it has. If you’ve visited the site lately (suuuuuuurrrrrrre…) you may have noticed a change in scenery. The design is far from complete, but at least it works and is usable, so any visitors can browse through. The design will be completed soon and an “official” announcement will be made. Check out my two short stories up at The Velvet Goat, an online comic anthology started by Jim Lujan … Read More

Something Positive

Go read Something Positive, by Randy Milholland, right now. In fact, don’t read the new stuff. Visit his archive and start from the beginning. Go. Do it. I’m not kidding. I will hurt you if you don’t get with the reading.
