LONG SPOT:
Osamu Tezuka is considered the father of modern Japanese comics, but his most famous comic became one of the most popular animated TV shows ever! In 1963, Astro Boy was the first Japanese comic to be adapted for animation, and this black and white cartoon helped launch the modern era of Anime!
In 2003, director Kazuya Konaka, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Tezuka Productions released a new version of the classic Anime in commemoration of Astro Boy’s given “birthdate” – April 7, 2003. Konaka stays true to the look and feel of the original Astro Boy while combining hand-drawn and computer animation, and the result is a breathtakingly beautiful Anime. Konaka’s Astro Boy retains a good amount of innocence throughout the series yet does not sacrifice the deeper parts of the story that deal with subject matters like human prejudice and the repercussions of hatred. This is a must see for both the young and old.
In this 5-DVD, 50-episode set, featuring 29 episodes never aired in the US, you’ll witness the story of Astro Boy, a youthful robot designed after a scientist’s deceased son. Though meant to be kept a secret, Astro Boy becomes a public hero fighting for justice on behalf of robots and humans alike!
